Federal Tax Credit Incentive Questions.

What is the U.S. Code 30C Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Tax Credit?

The U.S. Code 30C Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Tax Credit is a federal tax credit for businesses that install alternative fuel infrastructure, such as electric vehicle charging stations. The credit is for 30% of the cost of the infrastructure, up to $100,000 for electric vehicle charging property.

Who is eligible for the tax credit?

Businesses that are eligible for the credit include retail and commercial businesses, government entities, and non-profit organizations. The credit is not available to individuals.

What expenses does the tax credit cover?

Expenses covered by the tax credit include the cost of the EV charging stations, electrical wiring and conduit, and any other equipment necessary for the charging station to function. Additionally, the credit covers costs associated with the site preparation, such as grading and paving, if it is required for the installation.

How do I apply for the tax credit?

To apply for the U.S. Code 30C Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Tax Credit, you will need to file IRS Form 8911 with your tax return for the year in which the infrastructure was placed in service. The form includes instructions on how to calculate the amount of credit you are eligible for and how to claim it.

Is it possible to combine the tax credit with other incentives?

Yes, it is possible to use the tax credit in conjunction with other EV charging grants or rebates, however the credit will only apply to the out-of-pocket expenses you incurred, meaning that the 30% credit will not cover expenses that were already covered by any other state, utility, or other incentives.
