California Opens $56.5M Incentive Program for Apartment and Condo EV Charging

The Communities in Charge incentive project has launched a new wave of funding, with $56.5 million available to support multi-family EV charging installations across California.

Hypercharge is proud to be an official Participating Network Provider, with the Autel MaxiCharger AC Pro fully eligible under the program to help applicants maximize their rebate potential.

Funded by the California Energy Commission’s Clean Transportation Program and implemented by CALSTART, this round of funding is focused exclusively on apartments, condos, and other multi-family properties – ensuring residents have reliable access to charging where they live.

Applications are now open and must be submitted by January 9, 2026, at 5:00 PM PT.

What’s Available

Eligible applicants can receive rebates covering project costs for Level 2 EV charging infrastructure.

Incentives are calculated per port, with each eligible connector qualifying for support. For single-port chargers like the Autel MaxiCharger AC Pro, this means each installation can secure the full incentive value:

Funding Breakdown for EV Chargers:

• Level 2 Chargers (> 6.2 kW):
Up to $8,500 per port

• Level 2 Chargers (> 6.2 kW) at Tribal or Tribal-serving Sites:
Up to $12,000 per port

Who Can Apply?

The program is open to organizations seeking to install new EV charging infrastructure at multi-family housing and related sites. Eligible applicants include:

  • Property owners
  • Authorized lessees
  • Authorized representatives incurring project costs

Not Eligible: single-family homes, duplexes, triplexes, or projects already commissioned.

Priority is given to projects located in disadvantaged, low-income, and Tribal communities, as well as “Community Connection” sites such as student housing, nonprofit-managed residences, and senior housing.

Project Eligibility

To qualify, projects must:

  • Be a new, permanent installation using certified, commercially available chargers
  • Include connected chargers capable of reporting real-time usage data

Hypercharge’s charging stations are fully eligible under the program, with certified hardware and real-time network connectivity built-in to every charger we sell.

At least 25% of the connector types installed must be J1772 or CCS. The remaining 75% of ports may also include NACS (J3400).
