Starting today, Canadian businesses, building owners, and fleet operators can apply for a new round of federal funding to support the installation of EV charging stations.
The Green Economy Canada EV Charger Incentive Program officially opened at 9:00 AM ET this morning, with $1.7 million available to support EV charging station installations across the country.
In this first round, $1 million is available through July 23, 2025, with $300,000 reserved for equity-deserving groups. A second round, with $700,000 in additional funding, is expected to launch in late 2025 or early 2026.
The program is delivered by Green Economy Canada and funded through Natural Resources Canada’s Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP).
What’s Available
Eligible applicants can receive a rebate covering up to 50% of total project costs, to a maximum of $100,000 per organization.
For Indigenous businesses and communities, funding can cover up to 75%, with increased caps per unit.
When budgeting for your project, keep in mind that Level 2 funding is calculated per port, while DC fast charging funding applies per charging station.
This means that for Level 2 stations with multiple connectors, like the Autel MaxiCharger AC Ultra, you could be eligible for double the funding—helping you maximize your rebate potential.
Funding Breakdown for EV Chargers:
• Level 2 Chargers (Up to 19.2 kW):
Up to 50% of total costs, max $5,000 per port
• DC Fast Chargers (20 kW to 49 kW):
Up to 50% of total costs, max $15,000 per charger
• DC Fast Chargers (50 kW to 99 kW):
Up to 50% of total costs, max $50,000 per charger
• DC Fast Chargers (100 kW to 199 kW):
Up to 50% of total costs, max $75,000 per charger
Who Can Apply?
The program is open to organizations looking to install new EV charging infrastructure. Eligible applicants include:
- Multi-Unit Residential Buildings (MURBs)
- Workplaces
- Light-Duty Vehicle Fleets
- Public Places
- On-Street Charging
Priority is given to projects located in Ontario. Applications from other provinces will be considered only after July 23, if funds remain available.
30% of the total funding pool is reserved for projects that benefit or are led by ‘equity-deserving groups’ (see application guide for definition).
Project Eligibility
To qualify, projects must:
- Be a new, permanent installation using certified, commercially available chargers
- Include connected chargers capable of reporting real-time usage data
Hypercharge’s charging stations are fully eligible under the program, with certified hardware and real-time network connectivity built-in to every charger we sell.
At least 25% of the connector types installed must be J1772 or CCS. The remaining 75% of ports may also include NACS (J3400).
How to Apply for EV Charger Incentive Program Funding
Funding is limited and expected to go quickly, especially in Ontario where applications are reviewed as they come in. Be ready to apply early:
1. Prepare Your Application Materials
Review the Application Guide and gather key documents like quotes from Hypercharge, site photos, and proof of incorporation.
2. Submit the Online Application
Applications open June 23 and close July 23, 2025 — or sooner if funds run out. You’ll need to include charger specs, site info, and total project costs.
3. Sign the Funding Agreement
If approved, you’ll receive a Sub-Agreement. Once signed, your project is eligible for reimbursement and installation can begin.
4. Complete Installation by October 31, 2026
Your chargers must be fully installed, connected, and operational by this date.
5. Submit Final Documents to Receive Your Rebate
Provide charger photos, network confirmation, and proof of costs to trigger your reimbursement.
