Calgary EV Charging Guide for Apartments and Workplaces

November 19, 2025
A Calgary EV charging station is mounted on a post in the foreground, with city buildings and a red transit bus blurred in the background, highlighting sustainable transit in a modern urban environment.

Electric vehicle adoption in Alberta has been accelerating with the number of registered vehicles recently surging by an impressive 38%.

With more Albertans embracing the benefits of EVs, could Calgary soon catch up with the ownership rates in Vancouver, Toronto, and other major urban centres?

Critical to closing the gap will be helping drivers overcome a significant barrier to going electric: access to EV charging at home and at work.

But with the right information and new financial incentives, residential buildings and workplaces have a fresh opportunity to get Calgary charged up.

Hypercharge Pro Tip: The Electric Vehicle Association of Alberta has a live annual cost comparison between EVs and ICE vehicles that demonstrates EVs can deliver annual savings of more than 70%.

Calgary EV Charging for Apartments and Condos

About 26% of Calgarians live in apartments or condos, where residents face greater challenges to installing EV chargers at home compared to single-family homes.

Enhancing a property with EV charging stations attracts tenants on the hunt for this highly valued amenity while highlighting the building’s commitment to meeting its residents’ needs and sustainability.

EV charging fees can also create a new revenue stream that offsets the cost of installation and maintenance.

There has never been a better time for REITs, developers, strata boards, and property managers  to help Calgary residents go electric and to get in front of EV-related future bylaws and regulations.

Through the ChargeYYC pilot program, the city is offering generous financial incentives to install EV chargers in multiunit residential buildings (MURBs) — part of a multiprong strategy to reduce transportations emissions, which account for 33% of Calgary’s greenhouse gas emissions.

Phase 1 of offers up to $4,000 or 50% (whichever is lower) of the costs to develop an EV Charging Road Map for a MURB. Phase 2 supports the installation of EV charging infrastructure and charging stations.

This includes the EV Enabled Rebate, which will cover 50% of the cost of electrical upgrades (up to $90,000 in total), and the EV Charger Rebate, which covers 50% of the cost of installing new Level 2 chargers (up to $10,000 in total).

Hypercharge is your dependable partner for every stage of the ChargeYYC program and beyond. You’ll end Phase 1 with a Hypercharge EV Ready Plan, which includes:

During Phase 2, Hypercharge’s Project Design and Installation services will see you over the finish line.

We work closely with you and expert electrical contractors to plan and execute the installation and commissioning, providing support every step of the way.

Hypercharge Pro Tip: Alberta Municipalities’ Electric Vehicle Charging Program (EVCP) has funded more than 170 EV charging stations for businesses, residential buildings, municipalities, and more. Through the program is full, it’s still accepting expressions of interest and adding inquiries to its waitlist.
