Increasing EV Charging Revenue with Strategic Pricing Strategies

August 7, 2025

With Quantev™ Operations Suite, you can set customized electric vehicle charging fees and use dynamic rates to maximize revenue and save on energy costs.

In this post, we’ll show you how easy it is to get the most out of your EV charging stations by pairing strategic pricing strategies with this highly advanced—yet user-friendly—cloud-based management and analytics platform.

Choose Your EV Charging Fee Model

Quantev™ has all the tools you need to control and monitor your EV charging stations. This includes setting the type of charging fee, using one of the following models or a combination of them:

Pay-Per-Use Models in Quantev™

  • Time spent charging: Per minute or per hour
  • Flat fee: Per charging session, regardless of time or energy used
  • Energy consumed: Per kilowatt-hour (kWh) used
  • Idle fees: Per-minute parking fees for vehicles that remain connected after charging is complete, can be applied in addition to regular charging rates
  • Free charging: Complimentary with possible limits, often offered as a perk, reward, or incentive
  • Occupancy fees: A hybrid rate that combines a per-minute charge with a per-kWh charge, applied when a vehicle is connected to the charger

Hypercharge Pro Tip: Idle fees promote turnover at charging stations and discourage drivers from parking in EV spots without charging.

Additional Pricing Models (Via Customer Support Request)

  • Power-tiered: Rates vary by the charger’s power output. For example, $1/hour for 0–3 kW and $2/hour for 3–6 kW. Useful for load-sharing stations or plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) that charge at lower power levels.
  • Time-tiered: Rates vary by the length of the session. For example, $1 for the first hour, $2 for the second hour.
  • Time-of-day: Apply any rate type for specific time ranges in each day, with customized time frames for each day of the week.

Other Charging Fee Models (Self-Setup):

  • Parking + charging: A parking fee or pass that integrates EV charging
  • Subscription: A monthly or annual fee granting access to a charger or network of chargers.

Customize Rates for Station Users

One size doesn’t have to fit all when it comes to EV charging fees. Quantev™ enables station operations to set rates per user or user group.

For example, employees, residents, or customers might enjoy lower rates than visitors or the general public.

Customized charging rates can be used to:

  • Attract customers, clients, or prospective tenants to a property
  • Encourage repeat visits to a business
  • Provide a workplace perk to employees
  • Enhance the value of a customer loyalty program

Take Advantage of Dynamic Pricing

Hypercharge supports a range of flexible pricing models that can be configured to meet your operational goals.

Our team can set up rate structures for specific times, days, or conditions, allowing you to encourage off-peak charging, manage demand, and align pricing with your objectives.

When you base pricing on the following factors, you can also help reduce congestion at popular charging stations, lessen the demand on the power grid, and give drivers opportunities to save on charging fees:

Demand: Rates increase during high-demand periods, such as the time of day or day of the week.

Energy costs: Rates align with the local utility’s time-of-use electricity rates to reduce energy costs and encourage charging during off-peak hours.

Location: Rates reflect the level of demand at a specific location and/or the type of location (residential, business, workplace, public).

Usage tiers: Rates increase after a specified amount of charging time during a session.

Hypercharge Pro Tip: Using the bulk command function in Quantev™, you can adjust rates for multiple charging stations at once.

Monitor and Analyze Your EV Charging Operation

Quantev™ management and analytics tools keep track of your charging stations in real time, process transaction and payment records, gather insights into users’ behaviour, and collect all the data you need to adjust your operational strategies and plan for the future.

Dashboard displays key information about your charging operation at a glance, including total revenue earned, the average charging rate, energy usage, and average daily sessions. You can filter the view by date, site, station, charger model, charging level, and more.

Sessions digs deeper into the data for insights into usage patterns. With one click, you can see when charging stations were used, the duration of charging sessions, and revenue earned per session.

Statements generates downloadable monthly reports that detail remittances, usage data, and energy usage.

Hypercharge Pro Tip: Our Charging Revenue Calculator estimates how much revenue you can earn from EV charging based on the number of chargers, charging rate, and time spent charging.
