For nearly 40 years, Canadian-owned and operated Precise ParkLink has delivered integrated parking technology and management solutions across both the public and private sectors, overseeing more than half a million parking stalls across Canada.

In 2023, the company partnered with Hypercharge to offer EV charging through its clients. Today, it has 74 charging stations nationwide and has processed more than 5,600 EV charging transactions through its mobile parking app, Parkedin.

From the get-go, the partnership has extended beyond simply installing EV chargers to the entire charging experience. That includes streamlining how EV charging payments are handled within the Parkedin app to ensure a smooth and intuitive experience for drivers.

“We wanted to provide an easy way to pay for charging within a few simple steps,” explains Shana Bremachandran, Precise ParkLink’s account executive responsible for EV charging. “Unfortunately, our previous provider’s platform didn’t offer the open architecture and flexibility that we were looking for. We needed a true technology partner who could work with us on system architecture, transaction processing, API integrations, and the platform design as a whole.”

Enter Eevion™ Integrated Charging, Hypercharge’s cloud-based middleware platform, which enables users to activate and monitor charging sessions within a brand’s existing interface. Eevion’s application programming interface (API) architecture brings the entire Hypercharge network—and all charging functionalities—into any platform, system, or app.

To kick off the integration process, the Precise ParkLink team immersed themselves in Hypercharge’s open charge point protocol (OCPP), which allows compliant hardware and software to operate on any OCPP‑enabled EV charging network. They also mapped out how charging transactions flow through different payment platforms, particularly within mobile parking apps. “We wanted a deep understanding of how the charging ecosystem as a whole operates,” Bremachandran says, “and then to integrate this functionality into the app.” 

From there, the Parkedin and Hypercharge teams moved into designing the connection between the Parkedin and Hypercharge systems. “We had a series of design meetings and technical workshops to bring that to life,” Bremachandran says. “We worked together through the API structure and built a solution that allowed the two platforms to communicate seamlessly when it comes to paying for charging within the app.”

With the upgraded Parkedin app, EV drivers can now pay for both their parking and charging sessions in one place—and they don’t even need to download the app to do it. By scanning the QR code located on the EV charger, users can open Parkedin in a mobile browser window, verify payment on the spot, then plug in and start charging.

“This partnership allowed us to expand our EV infrastructure and our EV footprint as a whole, as EV adoption increases,” Bremachandran says. “And it’s been great having a close relationship with a Canadian provider. We like to partner with local organizations that share our mission and our vision for integrated mobility experiences across communities.”
